Hamburg Süd shipping company will once again prove its expertise in the transportation of fresh produce at this year’s Fruit Logistica trade fair in Berlin. Hamburg Süd is already one of the top five reefer container carriers worldwide, and a leader in the transportation of food products including fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products and other perishables.
“We apply the many years of experience that our internationally-oriented Global Reefer Competence Team has gained, to offer our customers logistics solutions tailored to their specific needs,” emphasizes Peter Frederiksen, Member of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd. Hamburg Süd has published its new Reefer Guide “Stay cool – we care” to coincide with Fruit Logistica: “It offers our customers genuine added value with a high level of practical relevance. All of Hamburg Süd’s reefer expertise has been distilled into the Reefer Guide,” Peter Frederiksen adds. For example, the 46-page guide contains the latest insights on the subject of stuffing, along with important information on product-specific settings for refrigerated containers.
Hamburg Süd sees growth potential in the fruit sector in particular. With the increasing importance of direct fruit shipment, investment is being made in the latest container technology. Peter Frederiksen said: “In the transportation of perishable products, there is great demand for real expertise and cutting-edge technology. We use XtendFRESH in many of our containers; this atmosphere-control technology can alter the composition of the air inside the refrigerated container depending on the products being transported. An integrated monitoring system also enables the atmosphere in the container to be monitored constantly throughout the journey, allowing fruit such as avocados and bananas to arrive at their destination at optimum ripeness. In the future, live applications that enable real-time container monitoring are also certain to play a part.”
