Table grapes only rarely with high pesticide residue

Grapes are delicate cultivars. They can be affected by a whole range of pests, such as fungi, insects, mites and viruses. That is why they are generally treated with crop protection product – both in conventional and organic growth. Fortunately however, grapes only rarely exceed the legally allowed maximum content of pesticides residues.

In the past two years (2013 and 2014), in the frame of the national report on food, only 1.3 percent of all grapes investigated exceeded the legally prescribed maximum of pesticides. In 11.4 percent of the table grapes investigated, no residues were found at all. In 2005, they still found residues that exceeded the maximum content in 5.6 percent of the grapes tested.

Exceedance of the maximum residue content does not inevitably pose a health risk to the consumer. Generally speaking, only much higher concentrations can damage one’s health. Whether the found quantity is harmful, needs to be evaluated by the monitoring authorities in each individual case.
