PDO Herbón-Padrón pepper campaign continues, despite rains

Just two months before the end of the Herbón-Padrón pepper campaign, production is at its peak, although the Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin Pemento de Herbón is cautious about giving exact production volume figures so far. In 2014, a total of 92,000 kilos were sold under the PDO Herbón.

This year, the rain has partially affected outdoor crops, although most of the production takes place in greenhouses.

The President of the PDO Herbón, José Ramón Torreira, argues that while it is still a fairly good year in terms of production, "taking stock at this point is risky," as peppers are "very sensitive to environmental changes, even though the plant also easily recovers," he says, pointing out "that while the campaign started a little late, it has been good so far."
