Greece: Assessment of rain and hail damage in Crete underway

Assessment of damage from hail and rainfall in Crete is being carried out by ELGA, according to a statement issued on 17 August, specifically stating:

"The ELGA is working to rapidly complete the evaluative process and produce an assessment of the damage caused to crops in Crete by the bad weather registered on 7 and 8 August. According to preliminary estimates, hail and untimely rains mainly affected the central and southern parts of Heraklion, mostly outdoor horticultural crops, olive trees and vineyards.

The ELGA is in constant contact and direct collaboration with the Region of Crete, local government and grower associations for the quick check and record of the damage and immediate tackling of the problem.
