Bulgaria: Application period 'Fruit in schools' extended
The application period for the 2015/2016 "Fruit in Schools" programme started on 17 August and will continue until 23 September, 2015. This year, the scheme has been allocated a budget of 14 million Lev (7.16 million Euro).
About 480,000 children are expected to benefit from the initiative. Each child will be receiving fresh fruits and vegetables worth 27.29 Lev (13.95 Euro), VAT excluded.
The value of a portion remains unchanged compared to the previous year - 0.68 Lev (0.35 Euro) without VAT; however new rules have been introduced. A new requirement is for the fruit and vegetables which are offered under the scheme to come from local purchases and/or local markets, with the exception of citrus fruits and bananas.
The new ordinance, as well as the application forms and instructions for applying, are available on the website of the scheme http://schoolfruit.dfz.bg. Parties eligible to apply include education institutions, commercial companies and fruit and vegetable cooperatives and producer organizations, as well as municipalities with schools located in their territory.
The Scheme will run from 15 September 2015 to 31 May 2016.
