Philippines: Fruit importers flagged by tax watch campaign

The finance department yesterday targeted fruit importations in its latest Tax Watch advertisement, noting the price differentials among traders shipping apples and pears into the country.

Among nine importers of apple products, North Asia Food Stuff Distributors had the highest declared value at P75.43 per kilogram, followed by Kenshien General Merchandise (P66.08), EDB Fruits Commercial (P62.85), Southwinds Trading International (P58.80) and Alb Enterprise (P56.09).

Meanwhile, Ronkurt Enterprises had the lowest declared average price at just P12.29 per kilogram, followed by Columbia Fruit Traders (P48.47), Advanced Impex International (P51.77) and Fairfield Import Export and Trading (P53.97).

The price difference between North Asia and Ronkurt is P63.14, the Finance department said.

For pear importers, Fairfield had the highest average price per kilogram at P46.88, followed by EDB Fruits (P45.78), Alb Enterprise (P40.24), Advanced Impex (P37.80), Bounty Source Trading (P33.38) and Josefino Trading (P32.33).

On the other hand, Best Food Importers and Traders Corp. had the lowest declared value at just P13.40 per kilogram, followed by Tresmarios Enterprises (P15.85), Great Mention Enterprises (P31.24) and Gwisi Fruits Commercial (P32.08).

The high and low valuations are P33.48 apart, the Finance department noted.

“Building the nation starts with proper valuation,” the Finance department said.
