Bulgaria: Tomato prices 50% up compared to 2014

Imported tomato prices in Bulgaria have increased by 50% compared to 2014. The wholesale price per kilo currently stands at 2.28 Lev (1.16 Euro), while a year ago it stood at 1.52 Lev (0.78 Euro). Unlike in 2014, there are now no domestically-produced tomatoes in the market, but only imports.

Meanwhile, most other vegetables register lower prices. The largest decrease corresponds to potatoes, which have become 32% cheaper. For their part, onion prices are currently 25% lower and imported cucumbers are 19.63% cheaper.

Citrus fruit prices remain almost at the same level as a year earlier, and bananas have become 6.37% more expensive, with the wholesale price per kilo during the first week of February reaching 2.04 Lev (1.04 Euro).
