Switzerland: Migros regarded as most social retailer in the world

Swiss retailer Migros took top spot in a rating agency study of the social and ecological engagement of 140 retail companies. That makes Migros the most sustainable retailer in the world, Swiss website schweizerbauer.ch reports.

Migros was the only company to receive the rating B+ (good) from German rating agency 'Oekom Research'. Well-known retailers such as Marks&Spencer from Great Britain, Carrefour from France and Metro from Germany, didn't score higher than a C rating (average). The rating scale ran from D- (bad) to A+ (very good). Oekom Research analysed over 100 social and ecological criteria in its assessment. Migros reports having scored particularly well in the criteria labour conditions, selection of suppliers, product range, energy procurement and business ethics.
