Makro Netherlands loses another director

Makro Netherlands's operational director, Erick Schmit, has resigned immediately. He is the fourth board member that has left the wholesaler in a short space of time.

20 years of service
Schmit has gone through the ranks at Metro Group since 1995, but he will now leave the company entirely with Nicolas Gautheron as his replacement. His departure is the fourth in a row, following non-food director Hans Brok, purchase director Maarten van Hamburg and financial director Martin Richrath.

Makro has been struggling financially for a while, which may explain the departures. Back in October 2014, the company announced that it would have a 785 million euro turnover for its first 9 months of the year. That resulted in a 21.8 million euro operational loss.

The company announced last summer that it would cut 340 positions in an attempt to increase efficiency. All 17 Makro stores in Netherlands were affected by the decision.
