Romania: Lower VAT on horticultural products in 2015

The Romanian Government will take new measures to support domestic growers in 2015 so that agriculture remains one of the country's engines of economic growth. Like in 2013, Romania's agricultural production in 2014 will increase compared to that of the previous campaign.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced that, based on the success achieved in the reduction of the VAT on bread and bakery products, similar measures will follow for fruits, vegetables and meat. The decision to first lower the VAT on fruits and vegetables has been taken as a measure intended to tackle the higher tax evasion in this sector.

In addition, the Minister of Agriculture, Daniel Constantin, said the Government will promote the consumption of Romanian products through programmes carried out at national level.
