Brazilian melon export season starts with large amounts
At the start of the 2014/15 export season, Brazil has already exported more melons in August and September than last year. At the German wholesalers the first notable amounts arrived in the second half of September, reports the German Agrarmarket Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website.
Brazil exported a total of 34,600 tonnes of melons in this period, according to the ministry of Foreign Trade (SECEX). This is 3% more than in the same period last year. The increase in value was slightly weaker, at 1.7%. The exported melons had a value of 28.8 million American dollars (22.57 million Euro). At 33,600 tonnes most of the export went to the EU. This amount was almost 4% higher than last year.
