$30k goes to charity as mango king wins 7th crown at Brisbane auction

The first mangoes of the season have been auctioned at the Brisbane markets for $30,000, with the money going to two Queensland charities.

The tray attracted dozens of bidders at the produce markets at Rocklea, with the auction starting at $5,000.

The reigning winner, Brisbane fruit shop owner Carlo Lorenti, was crowned king for the seventh time.

"The bidding I thought might have gone a little bit higher but we didn't have one of our main men here ... who usually stirs up a bit of bid," he said.

"It's always great to be able to help out these two wonderful charities - I'm very proud of it.

"This is my seventh time now so ... we've put in quite a bit of money but every cent is worth it."

All proceeds from the auction go to Diabetes Queensland and Life Education Queensland.
