Bulgaria: Inspections carried out at numerous markets

The National Revenue Agency (NRA) and the Bulgarian Agency for Food Safety (NVS) have started carrying out numerous inspections on traders of fruit, vegetables and foods of animal origin, including commodity markets, production sites and wholesalers.

Fiscal inspectors focused on whether their accounts showed the actual amount of funds invested in the production process, as well as compliance with tax and social security legislation. Inspectors monitor the issuing of payments and whether workers have labour contracts, and whether mandatory contributions are paid by employers.

Inspections will continue until the end of the year; the goal is to strengthen the control over the unauthorised importation of fruits, vegetables, plants, plant products, foodstuffs of animal origin and plant protection products from third countries.
