US (OH): Giant Eagle settling into new digs

Giant Eagle has landed at the Grandview Yard development, officially opening its Market District store Friday, Sept. 5. The store, located at 840 W. Third Ave., is the chain's ninth Market District store and the third in central Ohio.

The 93,000-square-foot Market District is open 24 hours a day and replaces the store on West Fifth Avenue, which is now closed.

Giant Eagle still owns the lease to the Fifth Avenue property and there has been no announcement about what may replace the old store.

"Grandview has been an important location for us since 2004 and we are excited to be an integral part in the transformative Grandview Yard development," Giant Eagle spokesman Dan Donovan said in a statement.

Market District features include:
  • The Sizzling Wok station, offering made-to-order stir fry dishes as well as authentic pho and pad thai.
  • An in-store restaurant with a menu that includes stone-hearth baked pizzas and Smoke & Fire meats. The restaurant area includes a full-service wine and beer bar featuring wine by the glass, more than 800 microbrews, craft and speciality beers and growler refills of craft brews.
  • A station that will host cooking demonstrations and interactive events.
  • An expanded section of international grocery items; natural, fresh, organic and speciality produce; and a variety of bulk foods.
The Sept. 5 grand opening featured a cooking demonstration and meet and greet with chef Mario Batali, restaurateur and star of ABC's The Chew.
