Should Australian supermarkets do more to promote ugly fruit and vegetables?

A knobbly potato, a dented apple, a not orange enough orange — admit it, you’ve done it before.



But what if you actually wanted to purchase one? Chances are, you couldn’t — at least not without visiting an independent organic store or farmer’s market.

In Australia, between 20 and 40 per cent of fruit and vegetables grown are rejected before they reach the shops because they don’t meet supermarkets’ high cosmetic standards and specifications.
