"There are many varieties available - Dumara, Melania, Sentinel, Zodiac, Caravan and Early Samanta," explains chairman Alberto Nocera.
"On average, we work with 400/500 tons of produce per day. Most of it is exported to Germany, Czech Republic and Poland, the remaining part is sold in Italy."
The company cultivates watermelons on 350 hectares, 200 of which are greenhouses. Yields are 70 tons per hectares, for an average yearly production of 50,000 tons. Thanks to the sandy/clayey soil of the area, the fruit is truly unique.
Agrieuropa is equipped with all the machinery necessary to process watermelons and supply its produce in a variety of packaging formats.
Among these, there are wooden bins for watermelons between 4/8 kg and 7/15 kg (total weight: 1 ton), cardboard crates holding 2 to 5 fruits for a total net weight of 20 kg and cardboards bins (total weight: 400 kg).
There are also wooden Euro bins that can hold around 66 fruits weighing between 4 and 6 kg each, for a total of 330 kg.
13 producers are part of Agrieuropa. Among them, Vivai Cortese harvests around 70/80 tons of Early Samanta (7-15 kg) per day between late May and June. They are sowed in late February on 13 hectares of greenhouses. Pollination is carried out by bees.
Another important partner is "AgriNocera", specialised in the Oneida variety (3/8 kg), which is sowed in early March and harvested between June and mid-July. The produce is grown in 36 hectares of greenhouses.
