Fruit Logistica 2014, Hall 2.2 - Stand B-01

Italy: Vanzetti to use new VM-Marketing name

VM-Marketing will officially make its debut in Berlin. The company was established only recently, gathering the three commercial farms that produce its fruit.

Owner Mauro Vanzetti (in the photo above), who has managed the company since 2004, told FreshPlaza that "VM-Marketing represents an innovation in trade management, as it creates a unique filter to manage the whole Vanzetti Fruit chain." 2013 was a demanding year, but production and sales were good especially in the apple sector.

"The start of the campaign of the Gala variety was good, as demand was lively and prices were stable. Red Delicious did not do so well, as the market was rather heavy especially in North Africa and the Middle East."

As regards the PGI mark obtained by Red Cuneo apples, Vanzetti comments that "even the most prestigious sticker does not work if the product does not self-promote. We have to emphasize the high-quality of our apples, the grades and the organoleptic qualities."

For the company, the most important variety in terms of value are Red Delicious (45%), followed by Gala (35%), Granny (10%) and Fuji and Golden Delicious (10% combined) for a total of 12,000 tons (2013).

"As regards peaches and nectarines, there was a 30% increase in volumes in the summer but only two months for processing. This was worsened by the low quality of the medium-late varieties and surpluses on the market especially in Germany, Scandinavia, Poland and Belgium."

Despite the problems, the company did not give up on varietal innovation. "We carried out various tests in 2012 and added 15 hectares for two new varieties of nectarines with a very appealing red skin, compact and that taste great."

"In the next two years we would like to add 50 hectares of medium-early varieties. We also want to share our corporate objectives with our clients, as they are not only retailers, but also traditional markets."

MV-Marketing will attend Fruit Logistica, Hall 2.2 - Stand B-01 ("MADE IN PIEMONTE" area): in addition to Mauro Vanzetti, sales manager Elisabetta Marco will also represent the company.
