French supermarket Monoprix seeks to conquer internationally

This year the group will open about ten shops abroad. For development, Monoprix relies on Casino, 100% owner of the brand since buying the shares owned by Galeries Lafayette.

Today Monoprix has 85 shops abroad, 10 of which opened in 2013 alone. Nine other openings should follow this year, notably in Morocco as well as Tunisia and Libya.

A development strategy aimed at the Maghreb for its strong Francophone tradition and development potential in these countries.

Further afield, Monoprix is leaning on the Casino network, which since buying the shares previously held by Galeries Lafayette, owns 100% of the brand. They supply Monoprix gourmet products to a number of hypermarkets owned by the brand in Hong Kong, Thailand and Brazil.

In order to advertise the brand Monoprix also relies on tourists who frequent the two main stores in Paris at Opéra and the Champs Elysées. The reusable Monop bag is the latest chic trend on the streets of Tokyo.
