Edeka and WWF start project for sustainable banana cultivation

The German trading agent EDEKA start together with WWF, on the basis of their strategic cooperation, a project for sustainable banana cultivation. The combined objective: bananas produced under conventional circumstances are to be produced more environment friendly and with more social responsibility, as published on the German website finanzen.net.

Involved in the project are selected, contracted banana farms in Colombia and Ecuador, which supply the bananas for their own mark 'Edeka'. The Edeka bananas are now available in many supermarkets and show the panda logo of WWF as a clear recognition. Via a product code the origin of the banana can be called up immediately. "Our aim is to have more responsibly produced, own hallmark products on the Edeka shelves all the time" Edeka management chairman Markus Mosa says. "Part of this is that we along with WWF, develope products, which will become a good example outside Edeka."
