Spain: Mandala Fresh, largest organic supermarket
A brand new organic supermarket, Mandala Fresh, with a floor area of 1,560 square metres, has opened in the city of Valencia. Its main goal is to promote local products and make healthy eating more accessible; a model that the company plans to take to other Spanish cities.
Four Valencian entrepreneurs are responsible for this project, which will give employment to 20 people this year and aims to become a point of reference amongst specialised distributors in the coming years.
As explained during the presentation of the supermarket, the goal is to adapt the European organic distribution model by reducing prices while maintaining the same quality. Organic products will thus no longer be considered luxury items.
Mandala Fresh will offer all kinds of organic products, with over 150 square metres devoted to fresh produce and over 2,500 different local products.
The facilities also include eco-efficient lighting and heating systems. The store is said to respond to the growing demand of such products, with Spain being one of the world's largest organic producers.
The sale of organic products will be complemented by various activities, such as tastings of organic wine, the making of cheeses by children and workshops on organic cultivation and nutrition, amongst others.
