Germany: Import covers demand for coloured lettuce

The harvest of coloured lettuce from the open ground cultivation is as good as over throughout Germany, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website. There was still some red oak leaf lettuce on the market, as this variety responds best to unfavourable weather conditions. There are only small amounts of coloured lettuce arriving on the market from the German greenhouse cultivation. They can only cover the current demand for a small part.

This is why the trade has mostly switched to imported products. Most of the imported ware are arriving from Italy at the moment, but the import from France is also increasing. There is enough coloured lettuce available, but there is no pressure on the market. This means the prices are at a stable, but not particularly high level.
