"Next Japan, hopefully in 2014 or 2015"

Blue Whale's first kiwi shipment to South Korea

Last Thursday Blue Whale loaded their first container of kiwi for South Korea. "It is a trial shipment due to arrive for Christmas time!", says Marc Peyres from Blue Whale.

After around 10 years of negotiations, this first container will enter Korea in 2013. "Going inside a new market with strict protocols is always an adventure and today we write a new page of Blue Whale access to long distance market. We hope that Korean customers will like our French kiwi like other customers in South East Asia, but we know it will be a long road to have our fruit recognised as premium fruit like it is today in different markets in South East Asia or Europe." High duties, long transit time and competition from other countries make the challenge difficult for Blue Whale, but they are ready for it.

The objective is to load again in January or February 2014 after arrival of the first load, continues Peyres.

Looking at the future Marc sees more Asian opportunities. "Next story to write will be the opening of Japanese market. We hope that will be in 2014 or 2015!"
