Pakistan: Banana price at one-year low
“The decline in the price is due to increase in the supply of the fruit from farms to markets,” Haji Shahjahan Shaikh, president of the Karachi Wholesale Vegetables and Fruits Market, said.
The supply of the fruit is in full-flow these days, he said. “The banana crop is harvested twice a year – from June to January,” he said.
He said that the prevailing price of bananas is not only one-year low but it may be two to three years low, he said. Bananas of grade two were available at Rs15 to Rs20 per dozen in the wholesale market, he said.
Moreover, raw banana of grade one is available at Rs20 per dozen, while grade two is being sold at Rs10 per dozen, he added.
