Germany: Rewe apps up retail

German supermarket chain Rewe and SapientNitro have launched a new iOS and Android app giving smartphone users a range of features for planning their shopping trips, as well as giving them ideas and in-store help. Customers can, for example, open the app’s own recipe world and pick what to cook and with one click add all the ingredients to their shopping lists. Recipes come complete with instructions, cooking times and nutritional values.

“The strength of the mobile channel is its immediacy. To gain traction among users and really work as intended, a mobile service has to engage seamlessly with users in their situation at the time,” says Joachim Bader, vp at SapientNitro. “The new Rewe app is an excellent example of functions that are designed precisely to fit the use case.”
