Growers and traders are concerned about the start of the campaign as a result of the behaviour of prices at origin. Not only did they drop in September to lower levels than in July, but the differences become even more noticeable when compared to last year's data.
It is worth noting that these are real prices at origin, compiled by the Government of Andalusia using real data provided by companies, and taking into account the value and volumes auctioned.
The only products escaping this collapse are Lamuyo and California peppers, especially the latter. The rest all experienced drops in value, as sharp as -64% in the case of round beans. But flagship products, like tomatoes, have also been seriously affected, with the value of vine tomatoes falling by 48.53% and that of the long-life variety by 46.77%.
