Expansion of cultivated cucumbers expected next year

Cucumber market under pressure from Spanish supply

"At the moment the situation on the cucumber market is not so great. Prices are presently around 25 cent for size 40 and 18 cent for size 35. It is quite positive but we have difficulty with the Spanish supply. Rainy weather has also not helped with sales," explained the trader. Until mid November there will be plenty of Dutch cucumbers available.

"At first sight it doesn't seem so bad. Sales have not been bad but combined with the rising energy cost overall profit falls." explained the trader. "Because of how badly it has gone for us, particularly in the tomato area, next year we will make an extension to the cucumber site. We are not looking forward to that, but we only have to do it once."
