US (CA): Tulare county crop report

Deciduous tree fruits, nuts, and grapes: Almond and pistachio nuts are being exported to Hong Kong, the European Union, India, Chile, Russian Federation, Israel and Malaysia. Other nut exports include pecans to Canada and walnuts to Hong Kong. This season’s walnut and pistachio harvest is a week away. Raisin grape harvest continues, with maturity levels 7-10 days ahead of normal. Table grape harvest continues, with exports going to Australia, New Zealand, Dominican Republic and China. Grapes are being covered with plastic for protection from adverse weather. The domestic demand and price for stone fruit remains strong, with exports to Australia, the Philippines and Thailand. The export of peaches and nectarines to Australia slowed slightly, but the first year program has been successful. Late season plums (Angeleno and Friar) are being picked. Harvested stone fruit orchards continue being topped. Kiwifruit continue sizing normally. Pomegranate fruit continue to develop in size and maturity, some harvesting has started. Asian pears are starting to be harvested. Blueberry bushes are being pruned.

Citrus, avocados and olives: Valencia orange harvest continues, with over 90 percent of the crop harvested. Re-greening of the Valencia orange crop continues to be an issue. Exports are still being sent to Mexico, Japan and Korea. The upcoming citrus crops appear normal to slightly above normal in volume and fruit size. Growers are monitoring the fall Red Scale flight currently underway. Growers continue irrigating and skirting citrus groves. Olive fruit continues sizing normally, with a heavy set observed in some orchards. Finger limes are being picked locally for export to Japan and the Netherlands.
