UK: Morrisons unveils new £1 million fruit cutting room

The firm has invested almost £1 million in the melon room at the Thrapston produce site, which will be responsible for creating fruit portions. Morrisons says it has installed new washers and dryers and has created seven new jobs as a result.

Thrapston site general manager Jonathan Oldfield said: “The investment we’ve made in this site is a sign of our commitment to the area and the great news is that it will create extra jobs which we’ll be looking to recruit for locally."

“We’re proud to be the only supermarket to make and produce much of the food sold in our stores ourselves and this investment just adds to that legacy.”

Morrisons says it owns 18 sites across the country – including abattoirs, meat sites, produce sites, a fish site, flower site, a bakery and even a banana ripening facility – where it produces many of its own goods.
