Germany: Supermarket promotions later with rhubarb

In the German foodstuff trade the number of promotions offering rhubarb clearly increased during the past years, according to the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on its website. With that AMI looked at promotions in the weekly advertising leaflets and online-offers of 45 chains and regional supermarkets.

Rhubarb was promoted 125 times in advertising in 2013. In 2012 this was 105 times. There are only promotions with rhubarb during the very short German season, which runs from the middle of March till the end of June. Only in a few cases, very early in the season, rhubarb from the Netherlands will also be available as mentioned in the advertising.

Looking at 2013 the main point in the advertising activities is two to three weeks later, as the entire season has moved backwards. In 2013 advertising for rhubarb continued up to week 25 and with that two weeks longer than previous years. The first promotions offering rhubarb also only started in week 13, however, and with that one week later than in 2012.
