In the label industry, the biggest landfill issue is attributed to waste matrix. Waste matrix is the excess material left after the die cuts each label separately. The company’s new Waste to Energy program invests in diverting excess production material from landfills and instead recycles it into energy resources.
With the purchase of a baler machine in early 2013, Yerecic has recycled over 670,000 pounds of waste into renewable energy. Clients of Yerecic such as Mastronardi Produce, The Kroger Company and Misionero Vegetables have assurance that the company is well focused on reducing their environmental footprint.
“The investment for this program is well worth it,” said President Art Yerecic. “We felt a strong responsibility to create a positive change in the label industry.”
To assist their clients in their efforts to adopt more sustainable business practices, Yerecic created a sustainable on-pack label product line called YerecicGreen. This lineup includes renewable film, recyclable liners, recyclable compatible adhesives and recycled content face sheets to help customers provide green packaging to fresh perishable shoppers. Yerecic is a leader among label converters in the green movement. They are certified in the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute’s Label Initiative for the Environment (L.I.F.E.) since 2010. The initiative measures clean production techniques, waste numbers and an organization’s commitment to the environment. The certification provides transparency for growers/shippers and retailers into the production practices from the label supply chain.
The next step on the way to being green; Yerecic Label set the goal to be 100% landfill free in 2014.
