UK company trailing black raspberry

UK softfruit grower, Place UK, are at the moment trailing a new raspberry, the Black raspberry. The trial is very small scale and it remains to be seen if it will go into commercial production.

Mac Black and Jewel are two varieties of Black Raspberries that Place UK have been trialling for sales in the UK.

The Black Raspberry is a member of the Rosaceae and belongs to the same subgenus (idaeobatus) as the Red Raspberry ( Rubus Idaeus L) and was grown predominatly in Oregon

There has been a renewed interest in the Black Raspberries because of their high anthocyanin content and antioxidant capacity.
