Bananas most popular fruit in New Zealand

Statistics New Zealand has found New Zealanders spend more on bananas than any other fruit, getting through 18kg of them each year.

That adds up to roughly two bananas a week per person.

Prices Manager Chris Pike says the average household spends $88 a year on the fruit, compared with $61 for apples and $26 for oranges.
