EU: Lower harvest peaches and nectarines

Due to the weather conditions in late April, especially in Spain and Greece, authorities revised the outlook for the crop yield. They are lower than the estimates by Medfel at the end of April.

In Greece and Macedonia, a marked reduction in yield, reportedly ranging from 24% to 29% is expected in the production of peaches and nectarines; a decline chalked up to hail. Severe hail storms hit Spain as well, especially in Catalonia. Compared to 2012, a crop loss of 12% is expected for peaches: 7% for nectarines and 17% for wild peaches. In Italy, prognosis shows an adjusted yield of 6% for peaches and 13% for nectarines.

In France, a lower harvest of 4% is expected for peaches, and 10% for nectarines. Regarding apricots, authorities anticipate a loss of 44% in Greece (compared to 2012), 14% in Spain, 37% in Italy and 16% in France.
