Polish fruit and vegetables cheapest in EU
The survey found that food and drink in Poland - including fruits and vegetables - was 39% below the EU average.
Denmark proved the most costly EU country for foodstuffs, registering 43 percent over the EU average.
Nevertheless, according to recent estimates from Eurostat Poland's GDP is still 34 percent below the EU average (up 2 percent since 2011). That puts it on a par with Hungary, and ahead of Romania and Bulgaria, as well as Croatia, which accedes to the EU next month. (nh)
