Auchan Indian expansion plans underway

Auchan has confirmed that 13 Max hypermarkets have now been brought under the Auchan banner in Delhi and in Southern parts of India, following the franchise agreement signed in August 2012 by Auchan and Max Hypermarkets Private Ltd. The two chains have committed to opening 12 to 15 stores per year in the region.

The most recent addition to Auchan's Indian portfolio of hypermarkets is located in Chennai, and is the largest hypermarket in the city, at 5,800 square metres and employing 258 staff, with a product offering of 18,000 food and non-food SKUs.

According to the French retailer, "the Max Hypermarkets teams benefited from the support and know-how of the Auchan group for the opening of the hypermarket in Chennai."

By the end of 2013, Auchan will reinforce its presence in Northern states, with six new openings scheduled for Punjab and Uttar Pradesh states, along with continued growth in southern Indian regions, with the opening of a second Chennai store and two new hypermarkets in Bangalore.
