Peru: Cencosud takes its Metro supermarket format to Colombia
The Chilean company has been gradually placing its label on the stores they bought from Carrefour last October.
In this process, the characteristics of the shops’ assortment as well as their interior design have been changed.
As they are adapting the stores, the Chilean company has undertaken a detailed analysis on the characteristics of the Colombian market and stores in operation, which has led them to conclude that there's not only space to develop its Jumbo supermarkets format, initially announced. For that reason, they will introduce its Metro brand for local consumers, a model of stores currently operating in Peru.
Although both Jumbo and Metro in Colombia will have their own particularities, the quality on offer and in the service will be their common denominator, thus complying with Cencosud Group's central tenet.
Metro is assembled under a more festive atmosphere, in which the concept of saving is present.
Cencosud Colombia is still defining where, in the country, they'll have stores that operate under the name Metro. However, it is clear that cities like Bogotá will feature this new brand. They expect the introduction to be gradual, as it was done with Jumbo.
It's important to recall that the deadline for the Carrefour brand to leave the local market is on Friday May 31, according to the agreement with Cencosud.
