"Initially it was to be a small scale event with 50 or so people but it ended up with 300 attending! We were a little surprised at the response and level of interest."

The day consisted of a number of chef demos, some well know chefs and others less so, but showing the diversity of what our products can do. We also opened it up to a few select others to display their items alongside our produce such as Infusions for Chefs, Universal Cookery Food Festival and Chef Magazine."
Westlands' produce was displayed in various ways and everyone was invited to take 3 tours around the nursery. The first being through the Microleaf unit, the 2nd was through a more traditional soil grown glass house and the other to the Inspired and Taste of the Sea glass houses entitled the ‘Garden of Eden’. The last tour was booked out very early in the day."The mix of visitors on the day was split, mainly chefs but also wholesale and distribution businesses we work closely with so they could all learn more about us. We also had Cresco BV from Holland come and spend the day with us," explains Coles.
Westlands' grow a full range of micro leaves, herbs, sea vegetables and edible flowers over two sites in 50 acres of glasshouses. Most of Westlands produce is sold to chefs, caterers and the wholesale market, a small percentage is available to consumers through Waitrose supermarkets. Westlands has recently started exporting into Europe through Dutch distributor Cresco.
