Fruit fly detected in South Australia

The first fruit fly outbreak of the season has been declared, at Kilburn in Adelaide's Northern suburbs.

A single fertile female Mediterranean fly has been found in a trap, and a quarantine area of 1.5 kilometres has been declared around the detection site.

Geoff Raven, manager plant and food standards, Biosecurity SA, says it's not unusual for outbreaks to occur in urban areas.
