The need to find lighter, more durable transport structures for a more automated and hygienic loading and unloading in warehouses, as well as an alternative to wooden pallets, explains the emergence of plastic pallets, suitable for international shipments, especially by air.
"It is generally the pallet of choice for its weight consistency and hygiene, as unlike wood, it can be sanitised, it is resistant to odours, it is more durable and is also lighter, which reduces shipping and labour costs," explain sources from Ribawood, a firm that produces and sells plastic pallets.
"Plastic pallets offer the most added value in closed-loop logistics models between clients and providers, in which the investment's return will depend on the number of transactions made and their price, considering that a part of the product's value can be recovered with recyclable plastics," they explain.
Additionally, "in automated environments, they drastically reduce warehouse and transport problems due to their dimensional stability and the removal of splinters and nails, which also improves safety, as this reduces weight while maintaining the mechanical properties. In the case of pallets for export, customs transactions are sped up as no documents on phytosanitary treatments are required."
Ribawood manufactures its products in Zaragoza, Spain, using high-pressure, low-pressure and gas-assisted injection systems. Its main clients are in the distribution, food and drink, automobile and white goods sectors.
"Our geographical location allows us to cover the European market with a guarantee of good and quality service, minimising transport and manufacturing costs," they affirm.
ONE WAY pallet
Ribawood supplies, among others, export, logistics, H1 and hygienic pallets, with the possibility to incorporate RFID chips depending on the pallet. The ONE WAY pallet is mainly intended for the export market and is the most popular. It is also intended for markets in which the pallet won't be recovered.
Among Ribawood's export markets we find Scandinavian countries such as Sweden and Norway, Central Europe, and commercial relationships are being established with Poland and northern Africa, in Morocco. Latin American markets are a short term objective.
Ribawood offers pallets in sizes 1,200 x 800 and 1,200 x 1,000; with gridded or flat bases; without pallet jacks, or with 2, 3, 4 and up to 6 pallet jacks; with or without perimeters; made of new or recycled materials; in polypropylene or polyethylene. The catalogue also includes reusable pallet boxes in the same sizes, allowing for a safe transport of goods, which reduces medium term investments in packaging.
These are, according to Ribawood, the main variables needed to identify the most suitable pallet:
* The load that it will transport.
* Whether or not it will be used for shelf storage.
* The number of times it will be used.
