Hungary: FruitVeB increasing production by one million tons by 2020

The fruit and vegetable sector, is hoping to increase its output by approximately one million tons from the current 2.5 million tons between 2014-2020. This is expected to increase employment significantly in rural areas, by 100,000 jobs, according to Mártonffy Béla, Chairman of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organisation (FruitVeB) speaking earlier this week at a press conference in Budapest.

When presenting the development proposals of the Hungarian fruit and vegetable sector for the 2014-2020 period, the Chairman announced that the cost of the planned developments will reach 465 billion HUF (approx $2 billion US), of which the support claim will be 232.5 billion HUF.
