Agriculture for the consumer

South Africa: Bien Donné Agri Cape Week Expo 2013

This renowned agricultural expo has become a household name in South Africa’s Western Cape agricultural circles and has been presented by the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) since 1942. This tradition was revived in 2012 when the ARC’s Bien Donné Expo and the Agri Cape Week Expo, organised by the Agri Mega Group, was combined to form the first annual Bien Donné Agri Cape Week Expo.

From Wednesday 17, to Saturday 20 April 2013, the historic Bien Donné Experimental Farm on the R45 between Paarl and Franschhoek, South Africa, is the place to be. Service-providers, producers and visitors alike, can once again participate in a variety of events and activities related to the industries that underpin the agriculture of this magnificent region thanks to the generous sponsorship of the main sponsors Standard Bank and Santam Agriculture.

A host of events, competitions, demonstrations, exhibits, and other attractions awaits visitors with emphasis on the theme of this year’s exciting theme: 'Agriculture for the consumer'.

Prominent stakeholders participating in this 69th anniversary of the expo include, the ARC, Agri Mega, National and Provincial Government, organised agricultural, agricultural commodity organisations, agricultural service organisations, new farmers, traditional commercial farmers, farm workers, agricultural suppliers, Agri Business, agricultural private sector organisations, agricultural development organisations and non-governmental organisations, but also, the consumer. There will indeed be lots to consume, taste and enjoy on this year’s menu; such as red meat and wine, but also opportunities to buy fresh farm produce at the Farm Stall and Fresh Produce Market that will offer export quality fruit and vegetables.

For the Farm Worker community, Bien Donné 2013 offers an extensive program where career and life skills will, amongst others, receive attention. There are exciting prizes to be won in the annual forklift driver competition.

Visitors can attend the expo from 09:00 – 15:00 (Wednesday – Friday) and 08:00 – 16:00 (Saturday)
