Ecuador: Magap implemented an information system

A new measure implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (Magap) will allow producers to make name changes, cancel their memberships, make queries about contracts, make land leases and contracts with some exporting companies via a website.

The computer system, Magap, will allow banana growers to make online transactions, providing facilities to farmers so they wont need to go to the Ministry's offices.

Reportedly, the online service will also serve to answer different requests and concerns. Currently, it is in the training phase both for technicians and for delegates of the banana guilds.

Magap training for farmers was conducted by technicians of the General Coordination of the National Information System (CGSIN) and began Saturday morning in Aso Guabo de Pasaje and in the afternoon at the Colegio Ingenieros Agronomos de El Oro.

Yesterday, delegates from 12 unions including Aso Guabo, Cerro Azul, Machala Agricultural Centre, El Guabo, San Miguel de Brazil, Chamber of Banana Producers El Oro, APROAF and Mussa Export participated in the training.

The training strategy is to work with delegates from the different unions so that they, in turn, teach the people the various crafts they have learned.
