AU: New committee to focus on horticulture export

The newly established Horticulture Export Industry Consultative Committee is an opportunity for the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and industry to work together on a variety of issues that impact on the export of horticulture.

APAL’s Market Development Manager, Claire Fitchett, has been accepted as a member of the Committee to be coordinated by DAFF.

Claire’s involvement will provide a voice for the apple and pear industry and ensure its views are considered before the introduction of any major policy or operational changes by DAFF.

“The Committee will provide a forum for DAFF to consult with industries involved in the export of horticulture products,” Claire said.

The first meeting is planned for April and will likely include discussions on; export inspection and certification issues and solutions, DAFF programs and cost recoverable regulatory activities.

Claire will be seeking comments and advice from industry on various issues related to horticulture export to take to the meeting.
