India: Better year for watermelons

Watermelons that were scarce last year have started to flood the markets of Tamil Nadu this year.

Good demand is expected this year, as the Summer seems to have arrived early and the temperature is soaring.

Periyakaruppu, a retailer says that he is selling at Rs 10 per kg now ($0.18US) and that it may not go up by more than Rs five or six. He says that with the climate already becoming hot he has started making Rs 300 to Rs 400 a day.
