EU modifies organic import rules
Japan demanded the commission to recognise the equivalence also to processed agricultural produce destined to be used as food, prepared with ingredients imported by Countries considered equivalent by Japan. The rules followed by the Country to control those produce respect the European ones which has thus decided to extend the equivalence to these produce.
The Indian authority, instead, reported to the Commission the existence of new trends concerning processed produce that contrast with the conditions to which the equivalence of the Country’s rules has been accorded. Therefore, the specifics concerning India are revised in order to eliminate the reference to processed produce destined to be eaten.
The EU believes urgent to call to order the authorities or control bodies of the State members with regard to non-standard produce imported from third Countries.
Moreover, in order to improve controls over imported organic products, State members will have to inform other State members and the EU Commission about every authorization of import they have allowed by 15 days from the official date of said license.
