AU: Woolworths sales rise
Australian sales climbed to 10.35 billion Australian dollars (US$10.78 billion) in the 13 weeks to Dec. 30 compared with a year earlier, said the nation's largest supermarket chain by stores. The company refers to the period as its second quarter.
When comparing stores open for at least 12 months, Australian food and liquor sales in Australia rose by a lower 2.5%. That was at the lower end of analyst expectations, but still an improvement on the 1.1% year-on-year growth recorded in the same period of 2011.
