"EU: "Empty melon market due to delays at sea"

As a result of delays at sea is the melon market currently empty. "The delays are attributed to inclement weather in the Atlantic," says Leon van den Hombergh of Frankort & Koning from Venlo, The Netherlands. "Two boats with a total of 200 containers of melons bound for Europe have been delayed. It is expected that these boats will arrive Thursday or Friday and the shortages will come to an end."

"Until now, the supply of Brazilian melons has gone very smoothly and these delays have been quite inconvenient. This will of course play a big part in this week before Christmas. Prices therefore for all varieties are Skyhigh. Secondly, it ensures that in January we will have a bigger challenge in selling due to the larger stock."
