The German carrot season of 2012 was quite special. For months there was a small supply and high prices. This started at the beginning of May, when early carrots in the south of Italy, Spain and France were available in insufficient quantities. Only in the second half of August sufficient quantities are available again and prices in November are at the usual level again.
Despite the small supply and the relatively high prices in Germany up to now, in 2012 about the same quantity of carrots was bought as last year. Carrots after tomatoes were still the second most bought fresh vegetable variety. At the organic vegetable sales organic carrots were by far number one.
