Peru: Artichoke exports fell 33%

Although between the months of September and October of this year, artichokes exports had a significant rebound of USD 13.8 million and USD 15.7 million respectively. Total shipments until last month totaled USD 69 million, which meant a drop of 33% in the monthly average (USD 6.9 million), compared to what was reached last year (USD 10.4 million).

Also, the amounts sent reached 23,100 MT, reflecting a fall of 33% compared to the 2011, at an average price similar to the previous period (USD 3.02 per kilogram).

As for the list of countries where the product is sent (in this same period) the United States led the ranking with USD 38.6 million (55% of the total), followed by Spain with USD 16.7 million (24%) and France with USD 8.9 million (13%), among 27 countries.

Regarding the main artichoke exporting companies, Sociedad AgrĂ­cola VirĂș led sales with USD 20.4 million (29% of the total), followed by Danper Trujillo with USD 18.7 million (27%) and Danper Arequipa USD 7.7 million (11%), among 20 exporters.
