US (WI): State crop quality varies by location

Crops in Wisconsin are in good shape or bad shape, depending on what part of the state you're talking about.

The weekly crop progress report from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service said crops are looking good generally in the northern part of Wisconsin, but remain poor in southern Wisconsin despite cooler temperatures and some healthy rains.

The cool weather brought a sign of fall especially to the north, with overnight temperatures dropping to the upper 30s and low 40s during the week ending Aug. 19.

Cranberry growers had to use frost protection measures in north central Wisconsin, the report said.
